Udaipur was hands down my favorite place in Rajasthan. Beautiful place that I'm glad we didn't miss out on! Annoying touts were fairly low in number, and the city is beautiful and a lot of fun to explore. It's been given the name of "Venice of Rajasthan" and it's very easy to agree with that. The canals are fun to walk around and there is tons of shopping and things to look at. We did a lot of shopping here, and felt like most of the people were fairly chill in terms of bartering and making a deal. We also scored huge at our hotel for this city. We stayed a bit far out (not lake-side) and we got a massive suite at a ridiculously cheap price. Yes, we had to walk a ways into the city but it really wasn't an inconvenience at all once you got your sense of direction sorted out. It was about 10-15 mins walk into the main area and about 50-60 rupees for a rickshaw in the evening.
The food was phenomenal throughout the city and we didn't have any tummy issues at all. Our favorite restaurant we discovered on the last night and it kills me that I can't remember the name. Either way, it was one of the many places screening Octopussy and it had the best view going. We watched Cemetery Junction and ate curry and nann. Good times!
Highlights:
Shopping and food choices
Views of the lake
Foreigner culture (A lot less packaged tourists, and a lot of friendly backpackers)
Sitting on the ghats near the river, watching the sun go down and drinking cappucinos!
Lowlights:
Nadda, enchilada. We loved Udaipur and can't really think of any less-than-stellar parts.
