After our time in Jaisalmer, I wasn't sure what to expect in Jaipur. Our hopes and expectations had definitely been dimmed after the camel fiasco but after the pooping and puking stopped we decided to put our positive faces on and carry on.
I enjoyed Jaipur but I think we had planned a bit too much time there. We had planned to do a bit of couchsurfing so I had given us an extra day and a bit so that we would have time to do some stuff on our own. We got to Jaipur and decided to just get a hotel room and do our own thing without couchsurfing, which meant a lot of time to kill. We had a Baskin Robbins around the corner from our guest house where we ate at least once a day....if not twice. Following ice cream, we normally walked into town through the bazaars stopping for a Lassi on our way. We visited the monkey palace and were pretty blown away by the numbers of those little rascals traipsing all over the place. It was pretty crazy! We managed to make it out to a few of the other sites but did a pretty good job of relaxing.
I really liked the hustle and bustle of Jaipur. It really was an interesting city and there was a lot to see. I thought the tout-level was fairly lower than Jaisalmer and for the most part we were easily able to keep to ourselves. There was one street family that seemed to follow us around a fair bit but it wasn't really anything all that new. They seemed to hang out wherever the foreigners were likely to be (McDonalds, the Movie Theatre or the Lassi shop). The one baby that was being carried around was severely malnourished and definately stroke the heart chord a bit, as this situation typically does.
Highlights
The peacock restaurant in Jaipur. Wow! Great food and amazing atmosphere for a really reasonable price. We ate there almost every night.
Massive amounts of monkeys at the Monkey Palace. Not an exaggeration...literally mind-blowing!
Our daily walk through the city. We were just so tired of the touts trying to get us in their taxis that we always walked the city. It's pretty traffic-crazy but I enjoyed our daily routine alot.
Walking through all the bazaars and different areas in the city.
Lowlights
Evan getting a really bad beard trim that looked like it came out of a 1960's Bollywood film. Bad. Oh and the rats crawling all over the barber shop was also not nice.
